Cloud Nodes

In order to deliver intelligence to a user's browser, the Blockade browser extension must contact a cloud node. Cloud nodes store indicators and other intelligence and deliver this information to each browser on a regular basis. Blockades hosts a free, public cloud node, but has also open sourced two versions (AWS and Python Flask) that a user can install on their own.

Public Blockade Node

Blockade makes use of a “serverless architecture” provided by Amazon Web Services. In order to power the Extension, the cloud node exposes two endpoints, one for getting intelligence and the other for processing events generated from malicious content. Each of these APIs map to a stateless function that either reads or writes to a NoSQL database. For events in particular, a copy of the content is also sent to S3 for long-term storage.
